Toyota and beyond

Sept 26th saw the toyota Half ironman (for those of you that remember this was the race with the hurricane last season), and MUCH better weather. I was really just looking to use this as a long training day as i had been sick with H1N1 for 12 days and a cold just before that (being sick for 2 weeks straight is not ideal prep for a HIM!). Oh well, i went into it just looking to have fun, and get to see my dad complete his first half. oddly enough i had a great swim, came out in first by close to a min, and then led the race through the bike and first 5 miles of the run before the wheels just fell off. I was clipping along 7 min miles without too much issue, and then in the span of about 200m the pace slowed to 9, and then 12 min miles, and i started throwing up. I called it quits at the turn around of the double out and back, and spent the next hour or so being pretty sick. If you exclude the end of the race though, i was very very pleased with how things went til that point, and it says good things about next season.

A few weeks later my guys had their first race, and we placed 2nd behind a stacked boat from the university of Michigan (#1 ranked club in the country). We also broke the old course record by 30 sec so it was a strong showing and promises good things to come.

This week saw my return to training after a few weeks of down time. Swimming is a bit rocky after so much time off, but should come quickly. My run feels great already though, and the milage this winter should lead to good things come spring.

thats all for now!
